A Life Lately Update

Starting this post off with a big ole thank you; thank you for supporting me, the blog (loving those comments and likes), the shop and pretty much everything else!

Reviving the blog wasn’t something I was 100% sure of, but your support has made it totally worth it! I’ve been fortunate to have a couple bits of recognition lately from Apartment Therapy, Pottery Barn Teen, and Laura Park Designs (which can be seen on my Instagram highlights), that I am especially thankful for, too.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

What else are we thankful for ….Thanksgiving! One of the best holidays of the year, don’tchyathink?

Even though we are not hosting the actual holiday this year, we have had a couple pre-celebrations where we actually sat in our dining room (what the what?!?!). I was so inspired by an article in the November Southern Living Magazine (that my Mom recommended) , “Her Pattern, My Way”, that I just had to take a stab at creating an updated table with our fine china for myself.

I choose a heavily patterned jewel toned tablecloth to pair with our green and gold china. The cloth is a big departure from something I would normally pick but I like how it works in the room, giving the entire setting a more updated and casual feel.

The centerpiece is just fresh cut magnolia branches from the yard, mums that have been hanging around for weeks (seriously, how do they last so long?!?!?) cut down and stuffed into jam jars, pumpkins, a couple of feathers, candles and an oversized bird. Super simple and probably took me 10 minutes to throw together.

Speaking of thanksgiving … let’s talk food.

Last year, I made a new-to-me recipe that I have NOT been able to stop thinking about, Bacon and Brussel Sprout Salad by Pinch of Yum. I love, love, loved it. It’s the perfect light and crunchy counterpoint to all the dark and heavy Thanksgiving standards.

In other food related news, I read an article about frying eggs in cream. Sounded kinda strange….so I tried it, it was delicious. Highly recommendable.

I also get a lot of question about my homemade chicken stock. This is the recipe I use, sometime I make the whole dish (which is amazing) and sometimes I just make the stock and save the shredded chicken for another meal. I promise you that this stock is the best I have had and it takes no time at all. Huge win.

And, of course, no month is complete around here without a little forced family fun. This time we headed to Big Rocks Nature Preserve. Big Rocks is a 22 acre preserve nestled in a residential area, about 30 minutes outside of downtown Charlotte, complete with large granite stone groupings and a creek. It’s perfect if you want some outdoor time, but don’t want to take the drive to the actual mountains.

Speaking of family, we’re looking forward to celebrating with ours over Thanksgiving week. I’ll be taking a little break from the blog to spend some undivided QT with them. I’ll be back in December, which seems crazy to type, but is just around the corner.

Happy Thanksgiving!

until December…
