A Christmas Home Tour

It’s a rainy and gloomy day in Charlotte today. To cheer myself up, I decided to work on our Christmas Home Tour.

Come on in and check it out.

I forgot I had ordered this faux pre-lit garland a couple of years back. A nice little surprise while unpacking …

A little thin for my taste, but perfect when coupled with a fresh mixed-greens roping.

And a fresh green wreath for the door, always.

Like most people I know, my decorations go where they go. And have gone where they have gone for years. Of course, some things change from time to time … especially now that one of my two daughters has developed some strong opinions when it comes to decor.

We did manage to agree on the pinecone tree, reindeer and Santa combo for the front hall tho.

And I managed to win the ottoman debate … no idea what I’m talking about, read the story here.

In years past, we’ve had the “adult” tree here in the living room. We decided to forgo the multiple trees this year and, honestly, I miss it. There’s just something wonderful about a tree in the front window. Ya know?

My mantel is feeling a little EXTA this year, but if you can’t go big for the holidays then when can you?? You know I’m right.

Years ago, I purchased one really high quality faux garland and it has been the base of my mantel every year since. A great faux foundation goes a long way when coupled with plenty of fresh greens - pine, magnolia, fraiser fir, or whatever you can get your hands on.

Otherwise, it’s pretty natural - pinecones, feathers and a simple brown satin ribbon..

Generally, I’m a big believer in grouping collections - like the nutcrackers on our piano - they just seem to make more of an impact when they’re all together.

Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for our Santa collection. Against my design wishes, they were scattered all over the house per my decorator-in-training daughter’s request.

Slim pickings this year on Christmas trees, but we’re happy with the guy we found.

We planned to go to the mountains to pick and cut our own tree, but in the end we didn’t motivate and went back to our favorite spot here in Charlotte. Sometimes you just have to know when to say “enough is enough”, and I think we all benefited from the downtime the skipped mountain trip gave us.

My favorite part about our tree this year is all the little oddities that make it unique - like the random branch that is longer than the rest or the perfect extra large nook (aka hole) to place a favorite ornament. Perfection is boring, anyway.

My other favorite part - I just sat on the couch and watched the kids decorate the tree. NO micromanaging or rearranging on my part, at all. That’s something I’m very proud of … in case you couldn’t already tell.

Ending the tour with a nighttime outside shot because what are Christmas decorations without lights?!?!?

So much to love about this time of year. Minus the leaves still on the ground and the lack of snow…but we’ll make do with the 60 degree temps. Ha!

With less than a week to go, I hope everyone enjoys the remainder of the holiday season.

Thanks for joining me on my holiday home tour.

Until next time…
